Birds can be some of the best teachers. We’ll be working with predator and prey. Both have different approaches through working with the hunter and the hunted. Identifying positive reinforcers is vast and change at a moment’s notice. Many species of birds are considered prey and aversives can be many and we will work on shaping skills in approaching\, modifying behavior\, teaching behaviors\, and focus on fluency. Lara will guide you individually and in groups\, pointing out potential issues in your approach and making sure you are set up for success. DESCRIPTION:I am really excited to have what I consider a Fabulous Guest who will talk about enrichment and how important this is for animals.\nI consider Lara a friend and a mentor\, she is fabulous to watch and learn from. If you are a trainer at any level you want to be a part of her community.\nLara is the owner of The Animal Behavior Center\, an international\, educational center empowering the lives of animals and the people that care for them using Applied Behavior Analysis. She is a professional animal behavior consultant and trainer with a focus on exotics. Lara travels internationally giving workshops\, lectures\, and provides online\, live-streaming learning programs on behavior\, training and enrichment. Lara’s focus is on behavior and training with all species of animals whether in the home\, shelter\, zoo\, or educational ambassador. She sits on the advisory board for All Species Consulting\, The Indonesian Parrot Project\, and Nature’s Nursery\, a wildlife rehabilitation center in Ohio. She is the president of the non-profit Sam\, I Can Foundation\, raising awareness for animals and animal organizations in need. She has been asked to co- author and is currently working on an international manual of animal behavior and training. She is a guest lecturer in the Zoo Biology; Behavior & Diagnostics taught by Dr. Jason Crean at St. Xavier University; Chicago. DESCRIPTION:We just finished designing the next workshop we are holding at The Animal Behavior Center. This is the first workshop offered since the pandemic.\nRegistration is now open to the public.\nThe workshop will be very interactive\, focused on individual attention and detail. If you are interested in learning more about Applied Behavior Analysis\, behavior modification\, challenging yourself\, and knowing where to begin training\, this workshop is for you.\nIf you are interested\, let me know if you have any questions. \nThis training workshop is for you if:\n– you already have a basic understanding of positive reinforcement\n– you want to better understand Applied Behavior Analysis and positive reinforcement in working with animals\n– you find yourself struggling with how to approach a variety of animal situations\n– you want to work outside the box and challenge your approach to different behavior and training situations\n– you want to fine-tune your current knowledge of training to learning through different species\n– you currently work with animals professionally and/or want to increase the quality of life of any species you are currently working with \nWhy Birds? \nReady to expand your knowledge through application? Birds can be some of the best teachers. We’ll be working with predator and prey. Both have different approaches through working with the hunter and the hunted. Identifying positive reinforcers are vast and change at a moment’s notice. Many species of birds are considered prey and aversives can be many and we will work on shaping skills in approaching\, modifying behavior\, teaching behaviors\, and focus on fluency. Lara will guide you individually and in groups\, pointing out potential issues in your approach and making sure you are set up for success. Our hands-on workshops receive high reviews from peers and other animal training professionals. We’ll be shaping your comfort level in working with a variety of species of birds and send you home with new ideas and approaches to your training and behavior modification struggles. \nBirds we’ll be working with:\nBlack casque hornbills\, Eurasian eagle owl\, toucanettes\, kookaburras\, parrots\, and others.
