Crate Training
Thursday, August 14th – 7 PM EST
Whether you’re working with small animals, larger animals, or even livestock, crate training is a powerful tool for teaching contingencies, providing safe spaces, and promoting calm, trusting behavior. In this session, you’ll learn how to introduce, desensitize, and utilize a crate effectively, regardless of species. Lara will guide you through step-by-step techniques to help your animal build positive associations with the crate, prevent and/or counter-condition common challenges, and ensure a smooth training experience. The class includes an in-depth demonstration video that illustrates key methods, recovery strategies, recognizing and preventing typical mistakes, and provides tips for customizing the approach to suit individual needs. Emphasizing observational behaviors, consistency, and positive reinforcement, this session demonstrates how crate training can foster trust, reduce stress, and lay the foundation for progress in other areas. In this Drop-In Class, Lara will share evidence-based, humane, and positive approaches to effectively address and reduce screaming behavior in parrots. With extensive experience across multiple species, she will emphasize that, while this is one of the most common concerns for parrot caregivers, it is also one of the most manageable. Lara will introduce practical, scientifically supported strategies rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis, explaining why the behavior occurs and how to facilitate meaningful change using easy-to-understand techniques.
